If you think you can’t work from home to make money with your hobbies think again.

The work from home small business idea I’d like to share today is right up my alley of hobbies and interest.

I’m talking about fly tying, the art of tying artificial flies for the sport of fly fishing. It’s something I have been doing for more than 30 years now.

Jenny and I like to go for breakfast at Hyne’s  Restaurant on Mountain Road Saturday mornings before starting our day. It’s just a 5 minute walk from our house so if it’s not raining too hard or a blizzard we get there.

Laurie and I went back and forth to bible college together for a while. Man, that was over 25 years ago as my son, who is now 25 wasn’t even born yet. It’s so easy to let friendships slip when life gets in the way.

Yesterday, instead of taking the same area to walk in I decided to walk down to Cornhill and Main were I used to live with my Grampy and Great Aunt when I first moved to Moncton, New Brunswick from Ontario.

Today I still live in Moncton where I work from home making my living online with work from home ideas, home gardening tips, even as an ebook reseller.

I didn’t have a job when I moved here and not much money either.

One hot sunny day, early spring Grampies lawn needed mowing and because they were both well up in years I grabbed the lawn mower and had the lawn done in just a few minutes. It made me happy to be able to help out.

Just as I shut off the lawn mower I heard someone yelling ” Excuse me young man.” It was the neighbour lady from across the street.

She offered me $10 dollars to mow her lawn. It was hot and I was planning to go out somewhere, but heck she was now my neighbour so I agreed. Turned out her lawn was pretty small and took me about 20 minutes.

While I was in her backyard her neighbour asked her if she would ask me if I would mow her lawn as well. She gave me $10 as well. Looks like I was on to something.

Not bragging that I did such a great job but before I was done I had 5 senior citizens who want to pay me $10 every time they wanted their lawn mowed and that was all on the same street I was living. How cool was that.

At the time my interest was mostly women, smoking and drinking and these ladies were helping me do just that.

That got me thinking, a little. MayI should visit the streets in my neighbourhood and see who else would like to pay me to mow their lawn.

Note: I was a very pleasant young man and the seniors loved that about me. I had no problem getting enough customers so that I could do three lawns a day 7 days a week. I used my own lawn mower so I never had to bother them other than to collect my money.

That was a great summer for me. I made about $200 a week and mostly only worked in the early morning so I had the entire day left to do whatever I wanted. Back then it was just girls and parties of course.

Before summer and fall were ending each of these ladies asked me if I would like to shovel their walk-ways during the winter. That lead to even more customers which turned into more summer jobs.

There is a lot of ways one can work from home and make money. It’s all about the skills you currently have.

Note: If you don’t have skills you believe you can make money with then invest the time to learn something you can. Heck I make money with a few New Brunswick fishing sites and love learning new things I can share.
