Work From Home Ideas Moncton–Fly Tying

A Work at Home Small Business Idea, Fly Tying.

If you think you can’t work from home to make money with your hobbies think again.

The work from home small business idea I’d like to share today is right up my alley of hobbies and interest.

I’m talking about fly tying, the art of tying artificial flies for the sport of fly fishing. It’s something I have been doing for more than 30 years now.

Jenny and I like to go for breakfast at Hyne’s  Restaurant on Mountain Road Saturday mornings before starting our day. It’s just a 5 minute walk from our house so if it’s not raining too hard or a blizzard we get there.

This day we decided to head downtown to the Moncton Market after our breakfast and see what was going on. We hadn’t been there for sometime and thought we might see a few people we haven’t seen for a while..

I don’t know any fly ties here in Moncton, Riverview or Dieppe as I have always tied my own. So it was great to meet fellow fly tying enthusiast Don Moroz of Moncton, New Brunswick at the Market.

I only ever tied flies for myself and a few friends and never had the desire to make money tying flies, just to save money. If you have the patience to tie flies it makes a great work from home business and you can sell locally as well as to a global market.

Don Moroz, owner of Don’s Fly Box

Ron Moroz Moncton Fly TyerI was pleasantly surprised when I walked into a section of the Moncton Market and saw Don’s booth full of flies but not the flies you want to swat. I’m talking about classic Atlantic salmon flies that salmon love to swat.

If you’ve got fly fishing in your blood you need to get down to the Moncton Market and checkout Don’s Fly Box for yourself. Maybe even pick up a pair of Atlantic salmon fly earrings.

I talked with Don for a couple of minutes and soon found he had a good sense of humour.

When I asked if I could snap a picture he smiled and asked if I had a sturdy camera. It took me a few seconds to clue into the fact he was referring to my camera breaking when I took a picture of him.

Well Jenny was with me and she’s not exactly into fishing or fly tying so I thought we better move on.

The best place to start learning about the flies you should be tying is in a great instructional guide for fly tiers.

There are many reasons why people choose to create a blog. Some, like my son Steve, have a lot to say and they want to say it to the world.

Others want to make money through advertising programs, which is the route I chose after seeing the traffic I was getting from the fly fishing blog I created. Originally I chose to create a blog to share my fly fishing experiences with friends and family.

Like myself, others find that this is a great way to keep up with and communicate with friends and family that might life in another part of the country or even on the other side of the world. No matter what someone’s reasons may be, these are very popular and there are some that have a huge readership. Some are entertaining, some are serious, and others are just for fun. If you want one, you just have to do a few things to get started.

The first step when you want to create a blog is to find a good host.

I have used a number of hosting services since 2001 when I first started online and have found that HostGator.com meets all my needs and expectations.

Not sure what a host is?

A host is someone that will allow you to use their web space to use for your blog. There are many different places out there, and some are better than others. You can find them easily enough if you search online. You can find some that are very user friendly, and others that require a little more work. What you want will depend on your level of html knowledge and how much time you have to spend when you create a blog and update it.

Most of the time people choose to create a blog with a site that has easy-to-use functions. It can be very easy to create each entry and to add pictures and other special things to the blog. You can also find ones that allow a lot of personalization, and some that are pretty standard if you are more concerned about what you write as apposed to what it looks like. Some allow embedded video as well, and many find this option to be fun, especially when communicating with family and friends.

Probably the most important part when you create a blog is to make sure you keep it up after you have started. If you are looking for readers that you don’t know, don’t give up. It takes time for people to find your blog. If someone likes it, they will bookmark it and come back for more. If you update once a day or at least a few times a week, you will find you have readers after a while. You do have to have interesting reading however, as no one wants to read a boring blog. They can be a lot of fun, and a great creative outlet for some. Go ahead and create a blog, and remember to have fun with it.

Work At Home Ideas For Moms or Dads

It’s kind of funny but when I go out to be with friends, who all know I work from home with my online business, I seem to only get interest from the ladies. They are interested to know of money making ideas that the could do working from home.

There are tons of ideas that you could do from home to make more money but all the ones I do involve working online. That’s where I like to make my money.

I make money from our new gardening hobby. It almost happened by accident. And it’s not hard to do at all. The make money part, that is. The gardening was a bit of work but we are loving it.

How do you think I learned about backyard gardening? Online from gardening blogs, that how and it just makes sense that I would start to blog about how much we are learning and at the same time sharing the things we are learning.

So for us this is one hobby that is making me money online and feeding us at the same time.

An overwintered brownie that cost a few flies to getCreative Commons License photo credit: BingoBangoGringoWouldn’t it be nice to work from home, go fishing a lot and then make money online blogging about your experience and experiences? Well that’s one thing I do and it rocks.

Most of my guy friends love to go fishing but only a couple of them actually take the time to write about their experience. I am a bit of a fishing fanatic and love fly fishing as often as I can and can hardly wait to get home so I can share my day on the water with my readers.

Work At Home Ideas For Making Money Online

The first thing that is important to me are my hobbies and interests. I feel much more confident talking about stuff I know so my focus usually is to see which of my hobbies or interest other people make money with. If they can make money I am pretty sure I can.

It isn’t until after I have exhausted my interests that I move on to other things. The main reason I wait to try other things is because there is usually a learning curve involved which takes me much  longer to reach the earning point.

But I go after markets or niches that are out side my area of expertise. I just do a lot more research first.

Heck if I had to spend time learning new things instead of going fishing then I need to know it’s going to help me make money online.

1. Auctions Like Ebay

When I first started online I went around the house and garage looking for stuff we didn’t want or use any more. It had to be in excellent condition of course.

I looked through all the boxes we still haven’t unpacked since moving here a few years ago. That was an excellent place to start as they were full of stuff I sold on eBay.

I think it’s an excellent idea to sell your crafts on eBay as well. I know a few ladies that are work at home moms and they love doing various crafts. They take them to flea markets and make a bit of money but if they would get over the fear of the internet they could make a lot more without even leaving the comfort of their home.

2. Create An eBook

This may seem like quite a task to take on for a work at home mom or dad but just think about what knowledge you have crammed up in that head of yours.

What did you do before you started to work at home?

What have you learned that you can share about having children?

How about you hobbies? Do people want to know what you know about them? Sure they do.

An ebook doesn’t have to be 100 pages, not any where near that. So many ebooks out there are just crap for the most part. They use big text and lots of images so they can say it’s 69 pages long.

The key to writing an ebook is to despense with the filler and just get to the point. You will get a lot more testimonials doing it that way and a lot less refund requests.

Take a look at this ebook site and see what types of ebooks are selling.

Next is a topic that has become near and dear to me because of the money it produces.

3. Affiliate Marketing

I am not sure why it took me so long to start affiliate marketing. It only makes sense that if you want to make money online and work from home you should be learning about affiliate marketing. Again I am not sure what held me back.

In a nutshell affiliate marketing is when you sell a product or service for someone or a company and they pay you a commission of some sort. You will be given an ID, affiliate identifier, that you use to promote.

Example: You blog about horseback riding and you find an affiliate network that has products relevant or complimentory to horseback riding. Say a saddle company.

Your affiliate ID would be used on your blog and when some one clicks that link they are taken to the saddle companies web site and they take over from there.

If the person buys a saddle or whatever is on that site you earn a commission.

The possibilities for making great money in affiliate marketing is staggering.

If you have been thinking about starting something online I encourage you to research your ideas before getting your feet wet. The amount of time you spend researching will make the difference between success or failure.

I have been on the end of failure a lot of times because I wasn’t willing to take the time for research and instead spent all my time working something that was never going to make me money anyways.

Research Is Time Well Spent

Already a work at home mom or dad and already have ideas working for you?

No need for a sales pitch but do take the time to share some of your experience.

I Work From Home Doing Things I Love

I love my hobbies, as most people do or they would not likely be a hobby. There aren’t many things that gives me more pleasure than enjoying my hobbies. Things like fishing with friends rocks as does gardening in our backyard. But there is something that still gets me excited every month and that is making money online from blogs where I share what I know about my hobbies and interests.

I have a few fly fishing sites and backyard gardening sites where I share what I know and learn while promoting affiliate products that help us or make our hobbies all the more enjoyable and I make money month after month just sharing what I love to do.

I even get to write off things like part of our living space, products that we use in our hobbies, that hobbies I write about that is and another thing is I get to write off my accountant.

When I was working for someone else I didnt’ have nearly as much fun and didn’t get to really write off anything. It all started when I decided to work from home and started my own little business.

I have my fishing sites which works great for me because I love to take friends with me when I go fishing and guess where they tend to buy their fishing supplies. You got it, right from one of my fishing blogs. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
