I get people asking me how to get more traffic to their web site. My question to them is usually what kind of traffic do you want coming to your site. It’s easy to get a ton of traffic but what is traffic if it doesn’t convert in income.

I tease them a bit with traffic exchanges, and maybe a few other crappy methods for earning money. Then I smile at them before I say some things like, ‘really though’. That’s when I tell them about article marketing.

Article Marketing For Target Traffic

I have proven to myself, years ago, that article marketing works as long as you write and link to the same thing. I have seen too many article writers that write about one topic and then link to something entirely different claiming they are an expert. Why would I want to link to something non-related to the topic I wrote about? Doesn’t seem very professional to me.

It does take time to build a really effective network of articles that will earn you a great income but doing it just one article at a time you will get there. Just don’t stray from the path of linking to relevant content in each of your articles.

Using The Top Article Directories To Send You Traffic

1. Good Content

Just think. If you were to write an article that focuses on one aspect of what ever you are marketing. Doing a good job as well, people don’t like reading crap so they mostly would click away from your article if it is.

2. Stay on Topic

The biggest problem I see in articles how the author jumps from topic to topic. It seems like they feel that if one topic doesn’t get their interest maybe one of the others will. Not smart thinking.

If their reader arrives from a search engine based on a phrase they typed in only to find that it wasn’t the main topic they may just leave.

On the other hand if you had written an article for each of your topics then that visitor would have landed on your one topic page and you stand a much better chance to have them follow your link to your money page.

So pick your topic and stay on that topic.

3. Re-Write Your Articles For Other Article Directories

I see people publish the same article over and over to all kinds of places. They use they same exact anchor text for each article as well. Not good planning and shows a person to be somewhat lazy too.

My strategy is to get as much attention from Google as I can, good attention that is. Publishing an article 30 times with the exact same text and link text looks like you’re spamming and you won’t get as much link juiced as you would if you were to make each article somewhat unique.

Being unique also applies to your link text, don’t use the same text, vary the text.

I usually go for a minimum of 30% for a rewrite and move paragraphs around if the article is structured in a way so that you can do that. If you are using points it’s each. If you are using step by step it can be a little tougher to move them around so be creative with your words.

NOTE: Write like a human and don’t grab words that most people would not use in conversation. It seems fake after too many weird words.

4. A Good Article Marketing Strategy

So you are going to rewrite your articles now and vary the link text or anchor text so that the search engines see your article as unique. Great start.

Now if you pick a topic and write about that topic for a month before moving on to the next topic or phrase.

5. No Brownie Points For Duplicate Content

Make sure you have pages to link to so you are not always linking to your main page. Get links to those internal pages but DO NOT link to the same article on your site. That’s so unprofessional. When I read a good article and follow the link only to find it’s linking to the same article on their site I just leave.

You won’t get nearly as much positive attention from the search engines and you will lose readers one after the other. If you have any subscribers you will most likely see them drop your site. Don’t go the duplicate content route to save time. It just costs you money.

I have found that most people want more traffic and go to extreme lengths to get it but not doing it right just leads to more problems, so take the time to learn a little more about how to get free web site traffic.

Many people look for the easy way to make money and think that using a piece of software to generate traffic is going to work. Well it may work for a while but as soon as the search engines catch on your done. As it turns out most of these types of software just aren’t worth your time or your money.

1) Search engines usually visit article directories, well the top ones anyways, they will find your articles and index those pages and you end up with multiple backlinks to your pages. I personally like to stick with just the top article directories that have a PR4 or higher. Doing this can take your low PR site and change it into a PR3 or higher.

2) It’s quite common to find your article in the search engines under the article directories on the first page of search engines long before your site ever reaches the first page for those keywords. Their pagerank is helping them and will eventually help you if you keep up with the article marketing.

I personally love EzineArticles, it’s my favorite article directory because it gets indexed so fast and makes it easy to get listed on the first page of Google while my own pages are still too deep for most seekers to find.

3) Then, if you take the time to write great articles other will get them from the article directories and publish them as content on their own sites.

IMPORTANT: When people find and use your article they found on a article directory they must leave your link in tact, this means that you can quickly gain lots of backlinks to your site and improve your page rank all this from 1 article. Credit where credit is due, right.

One article I published on EzineArticles.com provided me with more than 50 backlinks to my site in just a couple of weeks. Think about how long it would take you to get this amount of “relevant” links to your site and how much work would it take!

Phew, this is a big concept and I need to emphasise it’s not an exact science. But here is what I know in my research at the Backlinks clinic:

Authority – explained

The more authority your web pages have the better you will rank on Google. Authority means that searchers trust you and your content. The good news is that authorities trusted by people are also trusted by Google. A great example is the .edu and .gov domain extensions. These domains imply they are credible sources of content and it’s an established fact that in the eyes of Google backlinks from these domains to your site will “pass on” authority to your site. Another great example is Wikipedia as the entries here are mostly authored by by group of people as opposed to a single person.

So it follows that authority is significantly influenced by the source of your backlinks and if authoritative web pages link to you then you receive their apparent trust and in the eyes of Google you become more authoritative and hence the trust in your web pages by Google increases.

How Google pronounces what is and isn’t authoritative is confidential for solid reasons and aligns with Google’s thinking of “Do no evil”. The last thing the web needs is an individual or a group manipulating the mechanisms that Google untilzes in its efforts to try and bring some order to probably the most important technological resource of this period in history.

How not to get Backlinks

In the same vein it’s valuable to state some distasteful sources and methods of creating backlinks that Google not only disapproves of but appears to be acting to ‘’categorize as negative authorities. In no particular order of merit, the prime examples are:

• Paid backlinks – web sites where individuals purchase and sell backlinks
• Comment spam – entries that have links on web sites that are just not associated to the main content.
• Low quality and *duplicate content – ‘scraped’ or copied
• Rapid backlink growth – there are a large selection of ways that this is achievable, Google isn’t dumb. Any sudden increase in the amount of backlinks is going to show up on Google’s monitoring systems, specifically if it’s a recently registered domain.
• Backlinks from villainous web pages – these are particularly nasty as you are guilty by association – need I say more.

*There is another factor where I may be on dodgy ground, but major press properties seem to get a lot of authority and I have definitely seen significant quantities of the same content over and over again on different web sites with no penalties, I am still monitoring this, only as a percentage of the results I am seeing defy the consistent behaviors I normally expect to see. More on this is in a future article….

Optimization is an example of the most typical issues amateurs have when using Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, like Google Adwords.

Simply picking some good keywords and paying a high Cost Per Click (CPC) rate isn’t going to keep you in business long. There’s basically some simple mathematics behind it that will noticeably help you in finding your way to profitable PPC campaigns.

Before you start a PPC ad campaign to sell your products, you must know the following 2 things:

1. How much profit you make from each sale

2. How many unique visitors you can to your website (on average) before a sale is made( Note: you should be able to get statistical data from your website host that list the amount of unique visitors to your website on a given day.

Let’s say you sell a dog coaching course for $47.00 and you figure out your profit to be $40.00 per sale. You find that your website gets a hundred unique visitors before you generate one sale.

So, taking the info above…. for each unique visitor, you can pay $40.00 / 100 = 0.40 cents to break even point, make no money and lose no money. However, since your goal is to make money, you glaringly need to pay less for each unique visitor.

Now when you research the keywords and keyphrases to use in your PPC campaign, you now know that you cannot spend more than .40 cents on any click to stay clear of the negative. A good strategy may be to find the keywords and keyprases which will get you a decent Adrank which is the position of your ad with a price of .25 cents or less.

Let’s say you target to pay .25 cents ( approximately ) for each click to your site. That should leave you with .15 cents profit for each buyer. Granted, not all consumers make a purchase, but ultimately if your conversion rates stay the same you must average .15 cents profit on each click.

If you make .15 cents on each unique visitor, and you drive one thousand unique visitors to your site every day via your PPC ads, then you’ll make ( roughly ) 1000 x .15 = $150.00 per day.

There’s the easy math behind PPC advertising…

Web marketing plan / method one : Have a plan. Before you do any keyword research or write a PDF, have a written plan for every step of the process. I knew a girl who needed to leap into keyword research before she had any idea what she needed to do with the keyword she found. She had heard that keyword research was the key to success, so she needed to do it. Rather than leaping into something, develop a step by step plan.  

Internet marketing plan / strategy two : Work the plan. Too many people get distracted from their plan. Then next giant thing comes along and they are off working on it instead of working the plan they have just devised. If, after a fair period, you find that the plan you have isnt working, you can develop another plan, but dont go skipping from thing to thing with no overall method in mind.  

Internet marketing plan / method 3 : Develop a set of skills. You simply cannot master every kind of strategy that works online. However, you can develop a core set of skills that will make you money. A number of these include : sales copywriting, pay per click marketing, article marketing, affiliate selling, graphics development, list building, video selling, and much , much more. As you develop express skills, you can work them into your existing plan.  

Internetmarketing plan / strategy four : Build a list. Whatever your internet marketing plan is, part of it should be to build a list. In reality, you should have many lists. You must have an inventory of prospects who have visited your website and have downloaded free info from you and you must have a list of folk who have essentially acquired products from you. If you have multiple niches, you need multiple lists.  

Webmarketing technique / method 5 : Leverage other races skills. You do not have to do everything yourself. When you are first getting started and dont have much money to invest in your business, trade the things you are good at for the things you are not. For example, if you’re a photoshop pro but dont like to pen, trade your graphic design talents for articles. As you develop your business, you can simply outsource the parts of your business that arent as moneymaking for you.  

Online marketing plan / method six : Continue to get the best online marketing education around. Whether or not it is staying up to date by employing forums or selectively purchasing courses and reports that reinforce your intention, you must stay recent on the frequent changes online. Notice that I didnt say buy each WSO that comes along. Instead, selectively purchase stuff that helps you grow your business.  

Online marketing strategy / method 7 : price your clients. Perhaps nothing is more important than building a trust-based relationship with your customers. Feel honored that your clients have bought from you or through your links and pass on that respect to them in everything you do. Dont go for the quick kill go for the long term relationship.
