What I Do To Come Up With Quality Content

1. I Write Down All My Ideas

For the longest time I would get ideas that would just come and go. If I didn’t write them down I may never think of them again. Eventually I started carrying a pad and pen with me so I could write those money making ideas down for future use.

I go for long walks for health reasons. It’s great and my mind can be free to wander. This is the time I get answers to different questions I’ve had and if I don’t write them down it’s unlikely I will still remember them when I return home. So I write them down, immediately. I carried a small recorder for a while but felt kind of weird talking into it while walking.

2. Niche Focused Magazines For Ideas

Magazines are one of my best methods for coming up with fresh ideas for my blogs. I make a list of my niches and give them to family members as suggestions for Christmas and birthdays, so when I am hurting for an article I can open one of my magazines and refresh my mind.

I am not suggesting you copy the content, that would be very wrong but there is nothing wrong with using them to trigger ideas of your own. Put things in your own words and mix it up a bit so that you have unique but keyword focused content.

3. Take Part In Niche Forums

The forums that exist within your niche can be a great help and full of ideas you can spin into your own content that’s still yours and unique. But Be Forewarned as forums can be really addictive and a lot of time gets wasted just chatting and hanging around.

Get in, get out and get publishing. You can visit the forums again when your work for the day is complete. I used to spend some late nights on forums where I worked during the day and then returned to chat and goof off all night.

The ideas listed above are great ways to come up with ideas for content and should keep your readers happy for a long time. But I have multiple blogs with the same niche focus and don’t like using duplicate content.

Google does care much for duplicate content either so I need to come up with even more content but instead of working night and day to get that content I put my article spinner, The Best Spinner, to good use spinning content for my sites while keeping unique.

For me personally, I love using affiliate banners as well as affiliate text links on my sites and in blog posts. For those of you who are only just now learning about online marketing it’s going to be important to find affiliate programs with products available for your niche. For most niches you’ll find plenty affiliate programs and networks to choose from.

When I am searching out new affiliate networks and programs I use a Google search to help me locate them. Here is the way I construct my search criteria.

Using quotes I put in my niche, like: “puppy house training”, next I put a space, then a plus sign. Immediately after the plus sign I again use quotes to add the phrase affiliate program, or affiliate network. So the resulting search text would look like the following:

“puppy house training” +”affiliate program”

I would do the same thing for my fishing related niche.

“bass fishing” +”affiliate program”

For me blogging to make money is just article marketing which includes affiliate product links and is a pretty cool way to make a living, if you’re dedicated. It’s a business you can start in your spare time and could grow into a full time business like it has for me.

Where To Start With Online Marketing?

Internet marketing has become a global phenomenon today. It has a very strong appeal in a world of collapsing economies. It’s an opportunity to make a living in places there are just no jobs. All one needs is a computer to access the Internet and you have the potential to earn a living online as an affiliate marketer, like myself.

As for myself I’ve found it’s best to stick with what I know, although since starting my online business I have learned many things that have allowed me to earn more money from my work at home business.

Let’s start by creating a list of things you know that could potential help you earn money. So, what’s your talent or skill? What do you love to do that you could make money with?

STOP!! Don’t POO POO On Your Ideas

It’s important that you do not start knocking things off the list because you don’t feel you can make money. Most people will think they don’t know anything that will help them make money online. Well they were wrong and you will likely be wrong as well. So just make a list of your talents and skill.

Carry a pen and paper around with you so you can jot things down as they come to mind. I found that I took about 2 weeks and I was still coming up with things I enjoy. Just couldn’t think of them all at one sitting.

As you build your list of potential money making ideas you can start looking online for ways to make money with those ideas.

What?? You’re Not An Expert, That’s Cool

I have to make a confession. I am not an expert in any niche I market to. However I do make money with affiliate marketing. After saying that I do know stuff about the niches I promote to.

Affiliate marketing doesn’t mean you have to be an expert in your niche but it helps to know your niche because there are so many in each niche that do know their niche.

Share Experiences Makes Money

I love fishing, gardening, my dog, cooking, traveling and so many other things. I also found that people love to hear stories. The thing is they love to hear stories about things that interest them. That’s where niche marketing comes in. You only look for traffic from those who are interested in what you are saying and offering.

Example: Yes I really do love going fishing. I don’t own a lot of fancy fishing equipment. I have never been in a fishing tournament, heck I don’t even own a boat or a canoe. I do own a float tube that I love fishing from.

The thing is, even without top of the line gear I usually win the day because I pay attention to everything around me. Even my fishing buddies lamb jokes.

How do I make money in the sport fishing niche? I share stories along with pictures and of course I include affiliate links to the things I am talking about in my blog posts. Always remember a picture is worth a thousand words so use images that compliment your article.

So if I went fishing on a cloudy rainy day while the water temp was 54 degrees and caught fish using a Red Devil my readers want to know, everything, so they can duplicate my success. This quite often means they follow my affiliate to purchase products I used fishing that day and I make money.

Making money through affiliate marketing is actually quite simple, until you try to complicate it.

Personally I share stories about my fishing adventures or whatever my niche is about. Even though I am not a very talented writer I like to share my days of fishing as stories and that works for me. I just share truthful information about my niche that can help my readers do better and they click and follow my affiliate links.

Write, Link And Publish Niche Articles

So you start an affiliate related site and create quality and focused articles with affiliate product links now what?

At this point it’s important to get links pointing back to your pages. So start writing quality articles that match the content on your pages and link those articles to your important pages.

Now you could do what I did for the first few years I was affiliate marketing and that is to write and then rewrite your articles so they remain unique and then publish those unique articles to the top article directories.

Also start guest blogging, always use unique articles.

Article Spinning To Gain Backlinks

I just said that I used to write all my articles by hand but today I have more niches than I could keep up with if I continued writing and rewriting articles manually. What I do now is use The Best Spinner to rewrite my articles.

I also use many articles written by others through a variety of free sites. The thing is I reject more than 90% of the articles because they are crap. The resulting crap articles are a direct result of using article spinners, the wrong way.

1. Never Resort To Keyword Stuffing

My first experience with keyword stuffing was with a local minister who was eager to have a web presence. I explained the importance of keywords. I even helped him with his keyword research and then asked him to write up a few pages of content for his new site.

Well the content I received back after a day or two was nothing but keywords. There was no flow to the content at all, just keywords that were formed into what looked like paragraphs. I actually burst out laughing. I had never seen anything like it.

Well I called him about his content and explained about keyword density and keyword stuffing. We had a good laugh and he rewrote his content into what is now a great performing page.

I have seen many websites that just don’t get any real attention to their websites because they tend to use their keywords as every other word on their site. Makes it tough to read.

Online success does not require the use of keyword stuffing as you will do just fine with about keyword density of about 3-5 percent. Keyword stuffing can actually destroy any page ranking potential your site has so avoid it, completely.

So if you NOW realize that keyword stuffing may be the cause of your poor page rank then get to work and un-stuff your pages.

Using synonyms is a great way to stay on topic, get the point across and all without over using your keywords.

So if you are aiming for 5% keyword density then you only want to use your keyword 5 times per 100 words.

2. Stay on Topic For Each Page

This is something I’ve been guilty of in the past. I would write articles that were off topic, which dilutes the focus of your site in the eyes of the search engines. If your site is about acoustic guitar write about topics revolving around acoustic guitars.

Your acoustic guitar site may not be the place to talk about your dog’s skin problems.

3. Do NOT Go Black Hat SEO

I made this mistake a number of years ago and had a couple of sites actually banned in Google. I was completely shocked, even got a bit depressed actually. I had been warned in other articles I had read about white, grey and black hat SEO but didn’t think it was as dangerous as it can be.

The majority of grey or black hat SEO practices go against the terms of service for Google and Google is King of search engines. They will come down on you, hard.

Learn to work within accepted parameters and your business will get and keep better rankings.

4. Forgetting The ALT Tag

Today I include an ALT tag with each and every image I put on my web pages. I make sure I get an image that can speak to my visitor as a picture can be worth a thousand words but I don’t leave it there. I also use appropriate keywords in the ALT tag as search engines can read the ALT tag text.

I don’t do any keyword stuffing in ALT tags, as that will lead to problems with Google as well.

Example: <img src=”/images/yourpic.jpg” ALT=”a brief description of the image using a keyword or two” width=”100” height =”100”>

5. Use The Title Tag in Your Hyperlinks

Just like images can have an ALT tag hyperlinks can have a Title tag, which is basically the same thing. It’s an opportunity to include more detail about the link without making the link text longer and spammy looking.

Example: <a href=”http://www.yoursite.com” TITLE=”a brief description and keyword”>keyworded hyperlink</a>

Following the rules for SEO doesn’t mean you have to suffer with poor page rank, not at all. There are plenty of ways to optimize your pages with keyword stuffing or any grey or black hat. It just takes time, planning and action.

When I start in a niche I look for many keywords and phrases but I always have one main keyword phrase in mind once my research is underway. That’s the main phrase I want in my domain name as well but most others working the same niche will try for that main phrase as well.

Here are two things I do to get my domain name keyworded.

1. Use Hyphens To Get Your Keyworded Domain

I’ve tried for a few keyworded domains in popular niches in the past but of course they were already in use. I did have the option to go for something other than a dot com domain but dot com is what pops in most people’s heads so I wanted dot com.

To get the domain as a dot com domain and still have it optimized in the search engines for my keyword phrase I just added a hyphen between words.

My experience has taught me that it’s best to NOT use more than 3 hyphens. I am not 100% sure why but those domains I have with more than 3 hyphens just didn’t seem to get any search engine ranking. Maybe they appeared spammy to the major search engines.

If you find you still can’t get a keyworded domain using hyphens then the next step is to add a prefix or suffix to the keyword or phrase.

2. Include A Suffix or Prefix To Get Your Keyworded Domain Name

You may find you just can’t get that keyworded domain, even if you use hypens so now it’s time to maybe add a word or two in front or at the end of your phrase. You will find it’s better to add those words to the end of your phrase for better search engine optimization but if all else fails you could try using word infront. It’s not as optimized but will work better than not having it keyworded at all.

Let’s say you wanted a keyworded domain such as, make money online. I know it’s way over used but it’s just an example. Well homegardeningtips dot com is already taken so I would add a word or two at the end, something like, homegardeningtipstogrow dot com.

For best search engine optimization results as far as your domain name goes it’s best to use a suffix rather than using a prefix.

When I am looking to purchase domains I head straight over to www.GoDaddy.com where I buy all my domain names. I’ve never had a problem with GoDaddy. They take good care of me when I have any questions.

I won’t go into a long story about how clueless I was at online marketing because eventually I did learn and that’s when the money started coming in.

My best piece of advice for new online marketers is to learn how to make money before you start any websites or writing any content.

The key to successful online marketing is finding a profitable niche and the products or services that you can make money promoting.

So your first step is…

1. Finding A Profitable Niche

Amazon sells a lot of products through their affiliates and actually makes it quite easy to find products people want to purchase.

As a member of the Amazon Affiliate Program there is no real limit to the amount of money you can earn promoting products.

Why does Amazon do so well? They make it easy for people like you and me to find the best selling products to promote.

Profitable Niches And Amazon Bestsellers

Amazon.com is a great place to research profitable niches in order to find money making products.

Amazon really does make it easier than most places to find products people are buying and which of those products that are best sellers.

It’s the niches with best sellers we are looking for.

The first thing you’ll need to do is open Amazon.com in your browser where you will then see a list of categories which they call departments as well as a search box with a drop down list of categories.

Choosing A Category

You can use your mouse to move over the categories on the left to show the sub-categories. Then just click the category you wish to check out.

However if you are interested in being more specific you can use the search box.

First you click the drop down list and choose a category, such as books. Next it’s as simple as typing a phrase such as gardening to find books about gardening.

Notice that as you type in your phrase Amazon starts showing long tail phrases to help you along. I loved this feature when Google started using it as it can really stimulate your brain with ideas for content.

At the time of this writing it’s spring here in New Brunswick Canada so I am choosing gardening for dummies.

Once I have made my selection and hit the Enter key I am taken to a page with books on gardening for dummies. Oh man there are more than 150 to choose from. Which is my best choice??

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to sort our results, maybe by best sellers. Well that’s a possibility.

Sorting Amazon Search Results Pages

Notice near the top right there is a Sort by drop down list. Click the drop down and choose bestselling and you page is now sorted by best selling books on gardening for dummies.

How easy was that??

From here you can start looking at your choices from top to bottom. The best sellers now start at the top.

From here you will want to do a little research to find the product that will make money for you.

What To Look For In A Best Selling Product

BestSelling – Just the fact you are able to sort by bestselling puts you in a good spot as Amazon has just eliminated so many products for you.

Star Rating & Customer Reviews - Be sure to check out the star rating for each product you look at as it indicates how people are rating this product.

Just move your mouse of the stars and a pop-up will show you how many votes this product has.

Make certain you look at the number of reviews and then click the link to check out the reviews.

Keep in mind the info available to you in these reviews. Things you will be able to write about.

Using Google’s Free Keyword Tool

Now that you have found a product page you’re interested in copy the URL or web page address to the clipboard.

To do this right click the address bar, which will highlight the URL, then choose Copy.

Now let’s use Google’s Free Keyword Tool to get a bunch of keywords and phrases we can use in our content to get the traffic we need to make money with this product.

Find Google’s Free Keyword Tool by searching Google for that phrase. It will be the #1 search result. Then be sure you bookmark it as you will most likely be using it a lot as it’s free.

Most Competitive Search Results

In the Competition column you will see a bar with different amounts of green in them, one bar for each keyword phrase.

The less green in the bar the less competition for that phrase.

You can sort this column ascending or descending like the other columns.

Beginner’s Take Note: If you are just starting in a specific niche you may not want to try competing for the most competitive phrases as you main focus. Leave those for the big players who have been competing much longer than you have, maybe even years longer.

Focus on the phrases with less competition but not so little that you can’t get enough traffic to make money.

You can still use more competitive words and phrases as your secondary keywords so that eventually you will start ranking from phrases you can’t rank for today.

Getting The Exact Number of Searches

I would suggest that you look at exact phrase matches instead of the default broad match as the broad match includes the number of searches made using the words in any order.

The exact match on the other hand shows results for the phrase with the words in the exact order and not switched around.

You can view all three phrase types or you can choose a single option by clicking or unclicking the checkboxes at the left or the page under Match Types.

Next you can sort your results by Global Searches Per Month ascending or descending.

I don’t normally go after the top searched phrases in most of my niches as the bigger players kinda have those tied up for a lot of niches.

So instead I look for phrases that get less searches and just write more keyworded articles with those lessor phrases while the big players are focusing on the phrases that get the most searches.

I have already had a few of my websites start competing for top keyword phrases I couldn’t compete for at all just a year ago. This means that you should use top keywords as secondary phrases so that you will eventually rank for them as well.

Once I have found a suitable product I use Keyword Elite to focus in on the keywords and phrases that I stand to make the most income from. Keyword Elite is such a time saver. What used to take me hours and even days to research now takes place in under an hour. That’s so cool.

Keywords are funny things. Some marketers make huges amounts of income with their keywords while others don’t get any traffic at all using those same keywords and without traffic you can’t make money. Understanding why this happens and making better keyword choices is vital to one’s success these days and that takes the best keyword research.

If you don’t already know it trust me when I say “Not All Keywords Are Equal”, not by a long shot.

Making Bad Keyword Choices

I started my online business making bad keyword choices, mainly because I didn’t conduct the best keyword research and went with the top keywords in the niches I chose. This put me in a situation that was nearly hopeless as far as making money goes, just too much competition for me to compete with.

Making bad keyword choices doesn’t mean you have picked keywords that don’t make money, not at all. You could pick all the top keywords in your niche and not make a single dime just like I did at the beginning. Going for the top keywords in your niche may just be bad keyword choices.

Top keywords aren’t the only bad choices for keywords. There are an unlimited number of keyword phrases that just won’t get the traffic that converts to income. So what’s a new marketer to do?

What you really have to find are those keywords in the golden zone. Not so much competition you can’t compete but enough target traffic so you can make money.

Existing marketers in the niche you’re interested in may have been there for years writing content and building backlinks to get the ranking they have today. Those marketers will continue making money while you struggle for years trying to compete. That’s why the top keywords may just be a bad keyword choice.

No traffic means no money. My advice is to do the best keyword research you can to find better keywords, ones you can actually rank for in the short term.

Evaluate Your Competition

Most people tend to think of competition as the number of pages found for search terms when really it’s only the first couple of pages of search results we need to be concerned with. Who really cares about sites listed where no one looks. Heck most people never go past page two of search results before changing their search phrase.

The fact that most people don’t search past the first couple of pages of search results should tell you that your real competition is only the first couple of pages.

If we can’t compete with the top 10 or 20 search results we won’t make much money, if any at all. So don’t concern yourself with anything below those first two pages.

Once you learn how to make money it’s time to find a niche or market to research. It’s also important to research each niche and sub-niche for products or services you can promote comfortably.

Knowledge Is Power

Having taken the time to learn online marketing you know have knowledge on your side. This is the time to put that new knowledge to work.

I would suggest part time, about 3-4 hours minimum a week.

Brief Overview of Market Research

I know I just said you need to find a good ebook on the subject but allow me to give you a little overview to give you an idea of what to expect.

1. Find Something To Promote

You of course will want to find something you are comfortable promoting. The trick is not to find it and then run with it. Do some research first.

Places like Amazon, eBay and Magazine sites are great places to see what people are buying.

2. Research Your Niche And Product

Once you find a product or service that has your interest you need to know if that product has the interest of people with money they are willing to spend.

If no one is buying in that market you could spend months trying to figure out why you’re not making sales.

Google’s Free Keyword Tool is the place to start checking for the words people use to find what they are looking for. These are called keywords or keyword phrases.

Just type Google Free Keyword Tool in Google and it will most likely be the first item listed.

You will need to determine whether a keyword is too competitive and if it is actually a buying keyword phrase. You really want your keyword phrases to get enough traffic to make it worth your time but not so much that you can’t get traffic to your webpages.

For people starting online marketing these days it’s the golden spot to aim for. Not too much competition you can compete against it but enough to still make money.

It will vary for each product or niche so I can’t give you a target value of monthly traffic to aim for but a good guess would be to go for searches volumes between 1000 and 10,000.

You will also want to check the keywords you find while researching to see how many competing pages you’re up against.

3. Evaluate The Top Ten Web Sites

As part of your research you will want to put each potential keyword phrase in a Google search to see how many other websites are ranking for that same phrase.

Once you have your first page of listing open those top ten and look through the page to see what they have done.

There are a number of factors you can look at to see how much work you would have to do to move a head of that page.

Some factors are:

• Is the keyword phrase in the domain name?
• Is the keyword phrase in the page name?
• Is the keyword phrase in the Title of the page?
• Is they keyword phrase used throughout the page?
• What is the keyword density. The number of words on the page divided by the times the keyword phrase is used.
• Is the keyword phrase used in the hyperlink text. The links on the page.
• If you view the page source code is the keyword phrase in the description tag?
• Are there images on the page? When you mouse-over the image does a text tag appear? It’s called ALT text.
• If there is ALT tags on the images are they keyworded.
• How many backlinks does that page have.
• What is the page PageRank

There are a lot of factors that go into putting a money making keyword phrase on the first page of Google search results and it can take some time to check the top ten sites but it’s worth your time.

I spent days and weeks doing this manually but once I was making a little money I purchased Keyword Elite 2 as it give me all that information on one screen so it just take me a couple of minutes to evalute a keyword phrase and believe me time is money.

The more you evaluate potential competition and learn what’s needed to do better so you get on that first page of search results the better your chances of making good money online working from home.
