work at home officeI’m a work at home marketer enjoying the benefits of affiliate marketing and the Internet.

I have about a dozen sites going at any one time and market to a variety of niches which mostly revolve around my hobbies and interests.

I have turned my work from home idea into a full time thing now but must admit it wasn’t as easy as I had been led to believe.

Start With Niche Research

Start with niche research, now that’s sound advice. I seriously wonder at times just where I would be today if I had started my online business with a little research. A niche or market may seem good at a glance but once you start to evaluate it you may find it has way too much competition or exactly the opposite, no competition and no money.

Guessing isn’t going to make you money unless your guessing is really based on experience.

Research, the proper niche research, is so vital in a world of net savvy users who expect quality.

I Began Blogging About Things I Love To Do

trout fishing tipsOnce I invested time researching niches in my areas of interest I started a fly fishing blog, two actually and on the same domain. Now I was blogging about something I actually know about, fly fishing and fly tying.

After a couple of months of posting informative and keyworded fly fishing related articles I monetized my fishing blog and started making a bit of money.

I did the same thing in the home garden niche and now have two blogs about gardening where I live and they make me money as well.

I find it so much easier to come up with quality content in niches I have a strong interest in. So today, if I were to hand out any advice about Internet marketing it would be to find something you love to talk about, but the niche you choose has to have people making money.

I had someone put it this way: “Think a year or two down the road. Will you still have something to say about the niche you’ve chosen.” It made me sit back and look at a few of the niches I was in. I was already struggling with a few that were only a few months old.

Are You Credible Enough For Me To Buy From?

I never thought about it much until I started evaluating my web site traffic.

One day it dawned on me that I don’t often buy from sites I’ve only just found. In the back of my mind I just don’t trust people. I will buy from sites where I have confidence in the site owner and that takes a bit of time and reading usually. Often more than 5 visits.

I have expectations when I am clicking search results links in Google. I expect quality and the info I need to make me want to buy, even if I am already in the mood to purchase. So many things can turn off potential customers you will never see again.

A few things that immediately turn me away:

  • Lack of topic focus. Has every topic under the sun
  • Content reads like it’s been over spun
  • Too many distraction such as flashing banners and ads

Ask yourself this question when you are creating sites and content.

“Knowing there are many other great sites I can find, why would I want to stay on your site?”

super affiliate handbook 300It really comes down to knowing what you’re doing.

If you can’t be bothered creating quality for your visitors why should your visitors stick around? Make your readers happy and you stand to make some excellent money working from home.

Learning how to become a super affiliate isn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.

My advice is to learn from a real super affiliate, Rosalind Gardner through her Super Affiliate Handbook. It certainly has helped me.

article marketingArticle marketing, even after working from home here in Moncton writing for more than a decade, is still my favourite method of link building and getting traffic from search engines. Article marketing makes me feel like I am contributing, as I try to write quality articles my visitors want to read.

I add a couple of relevant links that will point to more info on the subject or an affiliate link. So when I get a click it’s either to an affiliate page where I may make a sale or it’s more traffic to another page, where of course there are a couple more links included in quality content.

Article marketing is more than just writing an article, publishing it and then moving on to another article. Oh no, not if you’ve heard about recycling. Let’s look at a few methods I use to make better use of my article writing efforts.

1. Don’t Limit Your self To Article Directories

no limits article marketingArticle directories are excellent locations to leave your content and of course those all essential and keyworded backlinks but do not quit at just article directories.

Feel Ezines as several of them are looking for content from other post marketers. Submitting articles to ezines can net you a boat load of targeted traffic and zero price to you.

I was introduced for the DirectoryofEzines.com, that is an excellent spot to find just the correct ezines to submit your articles to.

2. Discover Niche Specific Article Directories

niche specificFor a long time I only submitted to ezines as well as the standard article directories like EzineArticles.com. I in no way believed of which includes my niche when searching for article directories.

To save time looking via the multitude of article directories you may use a particular search engine query for example: “your niche topic” + “submit articles” or some thing along those lines. Example: “vegetable gardening” + “submit articles”.

3. Compile An Ebook Together with your Articles

Are your articles written to develop page rank using keywords and backlinks? Of course they’re or they wouldn’t be worth your time. Well now which you have all those articles you’ve written why not make an ebook for every niche you’ve written about.

You don’t require to be concerned about duplicate content material as the ebook content material isn’t going to be indexed on the net however it could possibly be something that people in that niche would like to have and the cool factor is that you are able to give it away.

Yeah, give it away and if the content material is good enough it might even go viral giving you more targeted traffic than ever. Viral which means it gets past around a whole lot.

4. Convert Your Articles Into Audio And Video

Now you may have thought that you were done whenever you published your articles and then produced an ebook but there is nonetheless more to be done.

There a more than several video web sites so why not convert those articles into videos and get them published on the main video websites for much more traffic for your pages.

It’s actually cool that, despite the fact that duplicate content can be a no-no, it’s completely acceptable when completed in the proper way.

On the point of duplicate content in article marketing, well there is a way to spin your articles into brand new articles you can publish around the net for even more backlinking power. The program I use personally is The Best Spinner. Instead of a few articles a day I can create hundreds, and still keep my keywords and quality.

Article marketing is my number one Internet marketing strategy because I can work from my home and write about the things I love the most and make money doing it. So cool.

Where To Start For Affiliate Marketing Success

affiliate marketingYou know it’s a whole lot easier to make money with affiliate marketing than many believe but it does take the right action for the best results. Even the little work from home marketer can do this and make money.

I utilize article marketing along with affiliate marketing to make money online. How much you make will depend on how much effort you’re willing to put into affiliate marketing and the goals you have set.

Clickbank Marketplace Is The Place To Learn More

When I am learning something new I head over to Clickbank so that I can look through the Clickbank Marketplace to find the exact ebook I need to learn how to do something. Don’t worry about purchasing an ebook that’s poor quality because you can request, and receive a refund and then get another ebook.

Most people today, whether a big player or not, use banner advertising to make extra income. For me personally, I love using affiliate banners as well as affiliate text links on my sites and in blog posts. I also include a few affiliate niche related advertising banners and links on the side bars of my blogs for my readers to see while they are reading.

Where To Start With Affiliate Marketing

For those of you who are only just now learning about online marketing it’s going to be important to find affiliate programs with products available for your niche. For most niches you’ll find plenty affiliate programs and networks to choose from.

When I am searching out new affiliate networks and programs I use a Google search to help me locate them. Here is the way I construct my search criteria.

Using quotes I put in my niche, like: “puppy house training”, next I put a space, then a plus sign. Immediately after the plus sign I again use quotes to add the phrase affiliate program, or affiliate network. So the resulting search text would look like the following:

“puppy house training” +”affiliate program”

I would do the same thing for my fishing related niche.

“bass fishing” +”affiliate program”

For me blogging to make money is just article marketing which includes affiliate product links and is a pretty cool way to make a living, if you’re dedicated. It’s a business you can start in your spare time and could grow into a full time business like it has for me.

Where To Start With Online Marketing?

affiliate marketing workInternet marketing has become a global phenomenon today. It has a very strong appeal in a world of collapsing economies. It’s an opportunity to make a living in places there are just no jobs. All one needs is a computer to access the Internet and you have the potential to earn a living online as an affiliate marketer, like myself.

As for myself I’ve found it’s best to stick with what I know, although since starting my online business I have learned many things that have allowed me to earn more money from my work at home business.

Let’s start by creating a list of things you know that could potential help you earn money. So, what’s your talent or skill? What do you love to do that you could make money with?

STOP!! Don’t POO POO On Your Ideas

It’s important that you do not start knocking things off the list because you don’t feel you can make money. Most people will think they don’t know anything that will help them make money online. Well they were wrong and you will likely be wrong as well. So just make a list of your talents and skill.

Carry a pen and paper around with you so you can jot things down as they come to mind. I found that I took about 2 weeks and I was still coming up with things I enjoy. Just couldn’t think of them all at one sitting.

As you build your list of potential money making ideas you can start looking online for ways to make money with those ideas.

What?? You’re Not An Expert, That’s Cool

I have to make a confession. I am not an expert in any niche I market to. However I do make money with affiliate marketing. After saying that I do know stuff about the niches I promote to.

Affiliate marketing doesn’t mean you have to be an expert in your niche but it helps to know your niche because there are so many in each niche that do know their niche.

Share Experiences Makes Money

I love fishing, gardening, my dog, cooking, traveling and so many other things. I also found that people love to hear stories. The thing is they love to hear stories about things that interest them. That’s where niche marketing comes in. You only look for traffic from those who are interested in what you are saying and offering.

Example: Yes I really do love going fishing. I don’t own a lot of fancy fishing equipment. I have never been in a fishing tournament, heck I don’t even own a boat or a canoe. I do own a float tube that I love fishing from.

The thing is, even without top of the line gear I usually win the day because I pay attention to everything around me. Even my fishing buddies lamb jokes.

How do I make money in the sport fishing niche? I share stories along with pictures and of course I include affiliate links to the things I am talking about in my blog posts. Always remember a picture is worth a thousand words so use images that compliment your article.

So if I went fishing on a cloudy rainy day while the water temp was 54 degrees and caught fish using a Red Devil my readers want to know, everything, so they can duplicate my success. This quite often means they follow my affiliate to purchase products I used fishing that day and I make money.

Making money through affiliate marketing is actually quite simple, until you try to complicate it.

Personally I share stories about my fishing adventures or whatever my niche is about. Even though I am not a very talented writer I like to share my days of fishing as stories and that works for me. I just share truthful information about my niche that can help my readers do better and they click and follow my affiliate links.

Write, Link And Publish Niche Articles

So you start an affiliate related site and create quality and focused articles with affiliate product links now what?

At this point it’s important to get links pointing back to your pages. So start writing quality articles that match the content on your pages and link those articles to your important pages.

Now you could do what I did for the first few years I was affiliate marketing and that is to write and then rewrite your articles so they remain unique and then publish those unique articles to the top article directories.

Also start guest blogging, always use unique articles.

Article Spinning To Gain Backlinks

I just said that I used to write all my articles by hand but today I have more niches than I could keep up with if I continued writing and rewriting articles manually. What I do now is use The Best Spinner to rewrite my articles.

I also use many articles written by others through a variety of free sites. The thing is I reject more than 90% of the articles because they are crap. The resulting crap articles are a direct result of using article spinners, the wrong way.

I can not stress enough just how important proof-reading and spell checking your articles is if your goal is successfully earning money online. Personally I read every article I publish and if it doesn’t read like I wrote it I’m going to reject it.

Work From Home Business – Dog Grooming

puppies first hair cut

Time For Puppies First Grooming

Do you love dogs? Are you aware that dog grooming is a work at home business that’s really taking off. I guess we have a lot of dogs in our cities and towns. Here in Moncton I think we have at least one dog for every couple of families, while many have more than just one dog.

There are plenty of moms who would love the opportunity to be work from home moms so they could take care of their own kids instead of using day cares. I know my wife would have loved to work from home when Steve was little.

But before you just jump right into starting a dog grooming business from home you might want to know a few things.

  • First the size of your home will matter, especially if you will have more than one dog waiting to be groomed.
  • If you are in a neighbourhood like ours where too much noise is not acceptable you will need to keep the noise level down, so you may have to include some soundproofing.
  • You will need a good air conditioner for those hot summer months and of course if you live where the temperature drops in winter you will want a strong but safe heater.

Be Equipped With The Right Tools

Dog grooming does require some specific but basic tools and equipment before you’re ready to start your work from home business.

A few things you will need to be ready:

  • A separate room to groom in
  • A grooming table
  • A tub with a ramp
  • Grooming shears
  • Grooming scissors
  • Clippers
  • Hair accessories
  • Cages to hold waiting dogs

Start up costs will run you a few hundred dollars. You may also want to do a little decorating to make your K-9 clients happy.

I have a couple of female friends that groom dogs for friends but the funny thing is neither of them own a dog. They really know how to make a dog feel relaxed. If you don’t have this natural ability you need to learn a few things about handling a dog during grooming for your safety and that of the dog.

An excellent way to learn things is hands on by volunteering at a grooming shop near you.

Promoting Your Dog Grooming Business

Word of Mouth Advertising

I worked as a computer instructor for 20 years and never once advertised, other than by word of mouth advertising which is very powerful. You make someone very happy and charge a reasonable prices and they will tell people, especially their friends and family.

Word of mouth is so powerful it can also cause problems if you don’t do a good job. The reason for this is due to the fact people tend to tell more people when they’ve had a bad experience compared to how many they tell when they get the experience they expect.

Internet Marketing

Most businesses, whether it’s a work from home business or not should have a web presence. Let people know what you do and where you are. Be sure to include testimonials as they go a long way toward drawing more business.

I have people contacting me on a daily basis looking for links from my sites to their sites in order to gain more traffic.

You could hire someone like me to build your website or you could start a Dog Grooming blog. But my suggestion would be to have both. A static page that tells people what you do and shows some images of before and after. But it’s also good to have a blog to share daily experiences and maybe stories from happy customers.

Have a presence at the local Farmer’s market, if you have one. I have friends that have work from home businesses who actually hire people to sit at a booth in the farmer’s market because it works to get more business.

work from home market your businessMarketing your company, whether it’s a brick and mortar business on Main street or a work from home business at your kitchen table, will help you stand apart from all the other work-at-home professionals offering your services.

The better you market yourself and your business, the better you will attract targeted prospects and clientele, and in turn increase your profits.

12 Ways to Effectively Market Your Services

1. Set up a Professional Website

You must have an attractive, professional site that showcases your skills, talents, and service offerings. Use it to market yourself through search engines, discussion boards, reciprocal link exchanges, and other online activities. Include your contact information, your biography and credentials, and testimonials to make it easy for potential clients to reach you and see you as credible.

2. Set up an Online Portfolio

Create and maintain an online portfolio filled with examples of your work to show your clients proof of what you can do.

3. Create a Brochure

Use a brochure to project a professional image for yourself while explaining the services you provide in a printed format – many people still like hard copies of information. Make it easy to read and not too wordy, including answers to questions someone might have about your type of business. As with your website, include your contact information, target client, a list and description of your services, testimonials, your biography and credentials, and contact information.

4. Network with Local Businesses

Meeting with fellow businesspeople at local business networking events can help you improve your reputation as a serious businessperson, and can help you generate contracts for yourself from companies that are not necessarily looking for staff or new projects.

5. Network through Social Networks

Market yourself on social networking sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook to increase exposure and awareness for your company and build valuable business and customer relationships. You’ll need to stay actively involved once you start, so join only a few groups specific to your industry and commit to participating in them regularly. Make sure to include a signature in your profiles that includes your website and contact details so your fellow members can find you online.

6. Research Your Prospective Clients

Learn as much as you can about a potential company before you make your first contact. It will help you find out if the client is a good fit for your services, and can help you make a sale later on.

7. Call Potential Clients

Market yourself by calling potential clients and making appointments to show them your service offerings.

8. Advertise in Local and Community Publications

Running your ad constantly in local publications will give you an image of reliability by making you consistently visible in your community, which will increase your chances of being hired when people are looking for services in your field.

9. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing can increase your sales, reach, awareness, branding, and return on investment by increasing the number of avenues advertising your product or services and allowing you to pay on a per-performance basis.

10. Use Blogging, Forums, Chat Rooms, and Social Media Marketing

Providing social media options on your website is a great way to build strong relationships and brand loyalty with your customers, as well as get feedback from them on suggestions you make or products you are promoting. They can help gain trust and encourage purchases when your audience finds them useful and informative. Use them to showcase your talent and expertise within your business.

11. Audio, Video, and Podcast Marketing

Use audio and video to increase your reach and visibility, provide valuable and beneficial added content, and communicate with your prospects more personally and regularly. Some people prefer to receive information in these formats, so these will strengthen your relationship with buyers and help build a community in your customers. You can also use podcasts to set yourself apart from your competition by distributing industry news and trends through them and in turn be seen as an expert in your industry.

12. Sweepstakes, Contests, and Giveaways

Generate buzz about your business by holding a contest and offering a giveaway. You can do it alone or with a partnering business. Just be sure to create a press release announcing the contest, and one to announce the winner.

You can make your business a winning one by putting these effective marketing tactics into practice. What are you waiting for?
