Okay let’s go at it from another angle. If you’re involved in an organization where you are actively trying to promote a product to just about everyone you can think of and you’re told to get/sponsor people under you – you’re involved in network marketing.And, these questions will likely wake you up.

Detest bugging your family, friends and people who fervently praying you won’t bring up your ‘business’ opportunity?  Cringe at the mere thought of ‘following up’ with your massage therapist after putting her on a third party call to explain your opportunity?  Ever dreamed you could just continue a discussion with someone without constantly thinking of ways to requesting them to join? Afraid of being told  “Do more of it!’ and you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing more of?  Worried of hounding people you know couldn’t care less about your business?   If you answered yes to these questions, you’re involved in network marketing.

The biggest issues you’ll be facing is WHERE you’re supposed to get “leads” to buy what you’re offering.  It involves your enroller (your upline) and your recruits (your downline).The upline ask you what to do, how to do it – sort of.Be careful as uplines don’t always tell you everything you REALLY need to know.  I.E. buy your leads for .74 cents (but you have to buy 200) Things are not what they looks like.  Hang in or bale?  Only experience will help you decide.

Choose Wisely.

Since the MLM business is built upon the idea of duplication, you must think about how you will recruit new distributors. Selling the MLM Company's primary product is what a smart MLMer will do. Even though many huge organizations have been built on product sales alone, most MLMer's overlook this marketing method.

Let’s look at a simple example. Would you rather have 1000 distributors purchasing $100 a month in product or 300 distributors selling $700 a month in product? Since MLM commissions are based on volume and the 1st group’s volume is $100,000 and the 2nd group’s volume is $210,000, who made the most money? It is obvious that the 2nd group was more profitable. Don’t neglect product sales systems if you can find them.

What you want to find starting out in the MLM business is a duplicatable system anyone can use. This may take the form of lead capture pages, autoresponders and the messages preloaded in them, and of course, a reliable source of good leads. Hopefully you can get all these “tools” from your upline, since company created material is not the best available for you.        Consider using a funded proposal system where you make upfront money and backend your primary MLM Business.

It is nothing new to use an MLM System to promote your business. These are available from the larger companies and uplines. How you use the system is what will make YOU stand apart from the crowd of the 1000′s of moneymaking offers available.

Let me give you an example of what one MLMer does to make over $1,000,000 a year. He uses the systems available; but he calls them and mails a postcard to his prospects. He only calls when he knows the prospect won’t be home and just leaves a generic message on their answering service introducing himself and his company. Signing up tons of people is no problem for him! He stands out because he uses 3 different ways to contact prospects: the Internet (using a lead capture page along with many followup autoresponder messages), the telephone and snail mail.

Since most people are ONLY using the Internet these days, why not consider standing out from the crowd yourself. Also use postcards and the telephone answering machine method. Teach your downline to do what you do, and you will see your downline grow tremendously.

Duplicatable systems can be rather “cold” and impersonal. It is adding the personal touch to any system which will make you a success.

Reason#1: Most new opportunities have no way to help people make large amounts of money. Many opportunities will give great ideas for making money, but then leave people out in the cold by offering very little training. There simply is not a good support system. Nobody should be a part of a business opportunity such as this.

Reason #2: Unfortunately, some home business opportunity promoters will take people’s money and run. There are too many fly-by-night companies out there that will not hesitate to scam people. The problem is their promotions sound just as good as everybody else’s. To avoid this, home-based business opportunity seekers need to be very skeptical about each business opportunity they are presented, examine them carefully, and then make an informed decision.

Reason #3: Some home-based business opportunities have people work long hours for little pay. People end up getting burned out, tired, frustrated, and eventually give up. Why become part of a work at home opportunity that is like a regular job?

Reason #4: Many business opportunities offer products nobody wants. Never, ever try to market anything people could care less about. Everyone who tries to do this is doomed to fail. Always remember that the market for your products or services comes first, and the product or service must offer something exciting that people want. In addition, it is best that the company that offers the product or service has a proven marketing system that automatically sells to people the exciting product or service.

Reason #5: Many home-based business opportunities force people to become salespeople. Because things are not set up right, people are forced to face rejection constantly. Most people hate to sell so avoid this type of business!

Reason #6: Most work at home opportunities pay small sums of money and no residual income. This is a recipe for disaster! If people sell low-ticket items that don't sell for very much money, it's going to be almost impossible for them to obtain financial freedom and to become rich. Never become part of any home-based business opportunity that forces one to sell tons of items just to make a decent profit.

So, there it is in nutshell-six additional reasons why many home-based businesses will fail. Carefully look for potential problems with any home-based business opportunity, make sure it does not meet the criteria for any of these six problems outlined, and then make an informed choice

A reply from many upline sponsors commonly is something similar to the following…

“No, you can build up a great residual income and become very successful in Multi Level Marketing by sponsoring just one person every month or two.

They go on to say that the people you sponsor do not have to come from the group of people you already know (commonly called your warn market).  They tell you to think about how many people you interact with in your everyday activities!

But then they turn around and tell you to write down a list of everyone you know, even from a casual relationship.  They instruct you to list everyone you can think of for example, people you work with, go to church with, people you do business with, people you went to school with, people you knew before you moved to your present location, etc. and you will be amazed by the number of people that end up on your list.

But the question is, will all these people really join your Multi Level Marketing business if you ask them to?  Most probably not.  However, statistics show that if only one out of every one hundred contacts you make joins your program under you, it will be enough to make your car payment, another one will make your house payment, and one more will retire you!

That’s really not so bad.  Three out of every one hundred is achievable, but you have to make the contacts.  As the saying goes, “the more you tell, the more you sell.”  Also, all the people on your contact list know others and although they might not be interested themselves, they might refer your to other people who will be interested.

Now 97 rejections might not seem like a lot to your sponsor, but I’m sure that it seems like a lot to you!  I know that it sure felt like a lot to me!

Do you know a number of people who would be willing to approach one hundred people and get turned down by 97 of them over and over again?  If you do, terrific, go sign them up today.  However, most people will not continue trying to sell or recruit to a disinterested, unwilling or hostile market.

Technically, the response above from the sponsor can be true if you are lucky enough to recruit someone that has all the required skills and goes on to become a “heavy hitter” in the company.  And depending upon your company’s compensation plan, that person might be able to carry you along.

It is extremely unlikely that you will be able to find a “heavy hitter” who can quickly go out and develop a significant downline beneith you if you are only recruiting “one person every month or two.”

So what should you do if you don’t want to face massive rejection and you are not going to be fortunate enough to land a “heavy hitter” early on in your MLM career?

The trick is not to go out chasing after people attempting to get them to buy your products or join your company.  That will only get you membership in the NFL (No Friends Left) club.  Instead, encourage the people who are really interested to come to you.  And then, bring them into your program with a soft sell approach instead of the more tradition hard sell.

“So, how do I achieve that?”, you ask.

You achieve this by first offering your target market a funded proposal or free report relevant to your market and developing a mailing or contact list from the funded proposal sales process.  You then develop a positive relationship with your list members through frequent contact and by providing them useful information.

If you have targeted the correct market, you will soon have prospects calling you and asking you what you do and how they can join your team.
