If you’re an online marketer it’s likely you have heard about the latest Google Update as it’s been all over the net for a couple of weeks now.

I make my living article marketing and am feeling rather fortunate that my sites are still doing fine. But then again, I work at keeping my content as unique as I can so I guess I earned the rankings and traffic I have.

The fact the majority of my business comes directly from Google’s organic search results tends to make me pay close attention to what Google has to say.

So today I am sharing a bit of what helps me stay on track with my article marketing.

1. Know That Google Doesn’t Much Care For Link Farms

It’s about relevancy when it come to getting a good listing in Google for you content. Link farms rarely are relevant as they link to far too many other niches.Google looks for relevance and it’s rare to find a link farm that would be relevant as the links are far too varied.

Make sure you only link to relevant content and you should be fine. It works for me.

2. Write Content That’s Relevant To The Rest of Your Pages And Most Of All Unique

Writing a lot of content and checking to see that it’s unique takes way too much time so I have to find a way to check it faster and I did.

After a little quality search time on Google I found CopyScape.com and now for just 5 cents a pop I can check my article for uniqueness.

Example: Today, while writing this article I used Copyscape to check how unique it was and found two problems. There was duplicate content in a couple of phrases. As it turns out both occurrence were from my own content. It’s easy to get in the habit of using similar and even exact phrases over and over but Copyscape helped me find it.

So for just 5 pennies I was able to pinpoint any duplicate content issues and avoided a problem before it ever arose to haunt me.

3. Not Only Unique But On Topic

I’ve read a lot of articles that have me frustrated by the end because they claim they are going to share something helpful but neglect to include it in the article and get way off topic.

Getting off topic is never a good thing and it won’t win you any brownie points with Google, actually quite the opposite as they may filter your content out of the search results as off topic.

In Conclusion: For a win-win situation write niche relevant unique content that gets indexed by Google and other search engines while keeping your readers happy and returning often.

best PLR content graphicYou decide to work from home to make a bit of extra money online. You find a great package of private label rights articles and start uploading them to your new blog. The thing is you haven’t modified the articles to make them the slightest bit unique. I would start worrying now.

Just a few short years ago I might have said there was no need to be afraid to use PLR information without changing it. By 2010 I said it was very important you alter your PLR articles by 30%, then 50%. It’s now 2011 and many of us say you should change even more. Your odds of attaining success with unmodified private label rights articles is about nil.

Is There A Time I Can Utilize Private Label Rights Out Of The Box

Understand, even though I believe you might be squandering your time working with private label rights articles straight out of the box there are times you just might be capable of getting away with it. When you are the first one to buy the private label rights and put them to use then there isn’t any duplicate content yet.

Of course with tons of marketers looking for these articles you aren’t likely to uncover unused articles totally free. But you can locate fresh PLR articles on paid sites.

The key here is to stay informed. Know when new PLR become on the market and be the first one to purchase and use the content.

Explain to Me What The Results Are For Using Duplicate Content

Permit me to give you what Google can do should they discover too many duplicate articles.

Person #1 locates  no cost PLR articles and believes it’s a great way to increase their website content without the need of doing work for it. Of course they still believes they will make lots of money.

Unfortunately after months of uploading duplicate content there is still no traffic.

Person #2 finds the same articles, however isn’t going to make use of them prior to researching Google to see how many times the content is already listed.

How to Make Duplicate Content Unique

I focus on the title. I put quotes around the title and search google to determine how many times it’s been utilized. I continue through the article checking phrases and spinning it to make them unique. This process becomes quicker the more time you practices.

Think about it Google’s been actively playing the search engine game for a while and they’re the leaders. If you wish to use unmodified PLR you need to be very afraid.

Improve search engine ranking

So you have a newborn website and its all geared up looking lovely and ready to make sales. You create some links on the internet for your new website, get your site listed with the search engines and you sit back and wait for the money to roll in…but there are no sales! Sound familiar? What you need is a constant stream of targeted visitors every day and visitors to frequent your site in their thousands, so is there a way to achieve this for free?

Sure there is and it’s called building free backlinks.

For those of you who are new to SEO (search engine optimization) you may be pondering what a backlink is and why they are crucial. Free backlinks are now so critical to getting your website in the first page of a search engine that they have become some of the main building blocks to a good SEO line of attack.

Free backlinks are links on the internet that point to your website, they are also know as inbound links. The amount of free backlinks to your website is an signal of the popularity or worth of that website. Free Backlinks are remarkably crucial for search engines because some, especially Google will see websites with lots of backlinks as being worth more and thus believe those sites more relevant for a unique search query and these sites will therefore get higher rankings in the results page.

When a search engine calculates the relevance of a website in relation to a keyword or search query they consider the number of quality inbound links that is has, so it’s important to concentrate particularly on the quality of backlinks to your webpages. A search engine will take into account the content of your site to determine the quality of a link. When inbound links to your site are derived from other sites that have content appropriate to your site then these backlinks will be measured to be more relevant and are likely to impact your webpage ranking to a great extent in a positive way.

Search engines wish for all websites to have a equal playing field and they will look for natural links constructed slowly over a period of time. It can be fairly easy to influence links on a web page to try and pull off a higher ranking. It’s possible to play around with the links on a site but it’s much tougher to sway a search engine with external backlinks from other websites. This is another reason why backlinks are so highly incorporated into a search engines algorithm, to foil the ‘cheaters’

Recently however a search engines criteria for quality backlinks has been toughened up even more due to unscrupulous webmasters trying to pull off backlinks by deceptive or sneaky techniques. Such practises include hidden links or robotically engineered webpages whose only intention is to supply inbound links to websites. These websites are called link farms and are now mostly disregarded by search engines.

Of course another cause for the pursuit of quality backlinks is to get traffic to your website. You can’t just make a website and be expecting people will find it without advertising your site and what it has to offer. Creating quality, natural free backlinks is really vital to Search Engine Optimization and so it should be very high on your priority list in your SEO efforts.
