Avoiding the Pitfalls of an Internet Business

Internet Guru’s have made millions spreading false tales about how easy it is to work from home and run an internet business.

To listen to their hype, thousands of new millionaires would be born every day and all from an easy system taught to them from one of those so called guru’s.

The fact is that creating an Internet business is going to take hard work, and dedication. If you approach it only half-heartedly then you’ll only end up failing.

This isn’t meant to discourage you, but only give you a fair warning of what you’re getting yourself in to. If you’re committed to starting an internet business then taking the time to avoid the following pitfalls will make the journey easier.

Cash flow is often the first and biggest problem that a person will run into when they first consider creating their own internet business. The costs can begin to add up when consider website hosting, advertising, and outsourcing.

You should always make sure that you’re going to have enough money to live on, and operate your new business for at least three months saved in advance. This will give you some breathing space, and allow you to focus on building up the traffic to your business.

Having a dedicated budget will help ease anxiety, and make you more confident about your new business. The next common pitfall is a basic lack of direction focus. When you create your internet business you need to have a firm idea in your mind of who your target customer is, and what your business is suppose to deliver.

Having this data on hand will allow you to focus your resources in a much easier way. It will help you avoid wasting money, and keep you focused on the task at hand. The next problem is rarely considered, but can turn into major trouble if not handled properly. When you create an internet business, your earnings are going to be treated by the IRS just the same as everyone else.

Make sure that your business is fully registered, and that you’ve got all your legal ducks in a row. Having to pay back taxes can cripple a business, or you could face even stiffer penalties depending on how well you do.

Take the time to research the relevant laws in your state, and make sure that you’re in full compliance with them. The last pitfall that often pops up, but isn’t talked about can be summoned up in one word. Boredom.

If you build a business that you can’t take personal enjoyment in, there is a very good possibility that eventually it will become a huge drain on you. This can have a negative influence on your business, and your home life.

The best solution is to create a business that you know is going to interest you on some level. You should find happiness in building your internet business, and it should never be something you dislike doing. With these helpful tips in mind, you can avoid some of the traps that so many individuals have fallen prey to, when creating their own internet business.

With all that’s occurring in today’s world and jobs being eliminated by the tens of thousands we all need a large savings, get your nest egg now go here

Thinking hard

Thinking up great benefit statements has always been the most challenging part of copywriting for the web. And benefit statements are critical to selling your readers to try your products, services, and ideas, second only to the headline.

All of the other parts of copywriting such as good headlines, price offers and stories were much easier for me than finding good benefit statements. The benefits list always drove me crazy; until I discovered the secret to creating one benefit or more per minute.

You may recall from Sales 101 that benefits are what sells your product or service, not features. Knowing that, I started to try to get to the bottom of what benefits actually are. They are just things that help you take (or not take action), right? As an example, you “build” muscles or “create” more time. So, what do you think about starting out each benefit statement with a verb that takes action? This is the process to take:

1.  Get a long list of alphabetized action verbs.

2.  Display the alphabetized list of action verbs on your desk or, even better, view them on your computer screen so that you can see the list in its entirety
.
3.  Begin with the first verb in your list that begins with the letter A and read the verb out loud and make a sentence out of it that describes one benefit of your product.

”Accelerate” is the first word on my list of verbs, for example.

Then, my descriptive sentence might be that my service helps “accelerate” the time it takes to learn to read Spanish.

4.  Keep writing benefits as long as you are able and don’t quit! You can cut out those that don’t have as much impact later. Now is not the time either to worry if you are writing duplicative statements down. Just keep an open mind and write down any benefit statements that come to mind about your product or service.

5.  Prioritize your list with the most important benefit statements first and the least important last.

This process has worked for me not only to create great benefits lists, but also for writing articles for my website like “35 Reasons Why a Blog is Better than a Traditional Web Site for Your Business,” or “50 Ways to Kill a Perfectly Good Seminar”.

Use my list of verbs or create your own and start creating your killer benefit statements in just 20 minutes. Most of the time, you won’t need more than a great list of 20 benefits.

I work from home as you will know if you follow my blog posts. I love working at home and wouldn’t want to ever change that now. I have far more flexibility with my time now, although I had to work hard when I started my online business.

I was a web site designer and teacher before starting my work from home business so I kind of stuck with that for a while after I started working from my home office. I didn’t really want to continue as a web designer though, it was just a way to make money while I was studying other methods for earning an income online.

Work From Home Starter Money Tip: I also made some great business starter money by selling things that we don’t use any more. We had a few yard sales in the past but that never earned us much, however when I started buying things at yard sales and then sold them on eBay I made a whole lot more money.

I thought that was a very useful tips for this time of year as it’s spring and people are starting their yard sales. You can make a lot of money  and it can be a lot of fun if you, like us, love yard sales.

Small Business Opportunities Magazine

Not sure what to do for your work at home opportunity, not a problem, just go to where you get your magazines and books. There you should find a section that will have small business opportunities. Buy one or two of those magazines and then find a nice quiet place to scan through them.

Magazines like that have great info for those wanting to work from home. Don’t skip the ads as they can be a wealth of info. Just think about why they place their ads in those magazines. Do you think they would continue to place ads if they didn’t get results?

Investing in a couple of subscriptions for work from home opportunities is a great move. A couple of my niches are gardening and fishing so I make sure I have a few subscriptions for magazines that will give me hints about what to write about on my blogs. Checkout the Home Business Magazine at Amazon.

Work At Home Stress

Stress

We know that an office environment can be a huge source of stress, so those of us that work at home believe we’ve got the advantage over our corporate counterparts. Maybe.

But then again, maybe not.

It is true that we don’t have many of the pressures that you find in a corporate office setting – unending distractions, coworker conflicts, demanding bosses, cramped and poorly lit work spaces – but working at home does have a few drawbacks of its own that, if not addressed, can cause serious stress symptoms.

Interestingly, or should I say ironically, the very reasons many of us choose to work from home are the same reasons we find our stress levels rising. Here are a few examples.

Work-at-Home Benefit #1 – Flexible Schedule

The Fantasy: Working from home means you can occasionally take a few hours off during the day for personal business, like errands, your kids’ school activities, or mani-pedis. After all, you can work later when the kids go to bed.

The Reality: You frequently, not occasionally, work into the wee hours of the night, leaving you irritable, fuzzy-headed, and jumpy from the copious amounts of caffeine you drink to stay awake.

Work-at-Home Benefit #2 – More Time Off

The Fantasy: You understand the importance of getting away from the office, disengaging from work obligations. So as your own boss, you get to take as many vacation and sick days as you need.

The Reality: Your definition of vacations are when you work from “satellite offices” in other cities where there are a lot of tourist attractions. And sick days are when you move your office to a room down the hall where you work lying in an office bed instead of sitting in an office chair. It is a good thing that you have unlimited sick days and vacation time, because you never seem to feel rejuvenated, and you just can’t seem to get over your recent illness.

Work-at-Home Benefit #3 – The 5-Second Commute

The Fantasy: Having an office in your home means not spending two hours in the morning dressing for work and commuting through bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Reality: No need to “leave your work at the office.” You can pop in there anytime to take care of quick tasks since you’re already dressed for work (after all, Hello Kitty pajamas are acceptable office attire) and you’re “driving” by there on your way to the kitchen anyway. And those looming deadlines and unfinished projects tend to distract you from your family time and keep you up at night when they’re just a few steps away.

Work-at-Home Benefit #4 – Fewer Distractions

The Fantasy: Working from home means no distractions from chatty coworkers, ringing telephones, or your boss asking how to load paper into the copier.

The Reality: Without all those distractions, you’re able to write an article, put a load of laundry in the washer, send an email to a colleague, throw something in the Crock Pot for dinner, learn a new software program, take your kids to the park. Wait a minute, what was I doing? And why haven’t I gotten anything done?

All joking aside, it’s important to separate your work from your personal life. By doing this, you more fully participate in family time, and you’re more efficient during work hours. One of the few benefits, in my opinion, to working outside the home is that you can easily compartmentalize your home life and your work life.

When you’re at work, you are more likely to stay focused on work, and when you leave the office, the work stays there. In addition, the commute home, even if it’s just ten minutes, gives you the opportunity to transition from a work frame of mind to a family oriented mindset.

But when your office is in your home, it’s up to you to draw clear boundaries between family and work.

Pence

Too many people are trying to make money online without investing a penny and then they are questioning whether internet marketing is a scam or not. Try starting a new business in the real world for free and see what happens.

Not every business has the moneymaking potential of some of existing successful businesses but it’s no reason for you not to have a profitable business of your own.  Where you spend your money may make or break your business if you have a tight budget.  A couple of real life samples are in commission payload materials in the exclusive member area.

Here are some techniques to build your business with almost zero start up costs. Some of these will require more effort while others are easy.

  1. Use social networking sites and forums to promote your products and services. Be sure to follow the guidelines of the websites. Understand the terms and conditions of each website to avoid issues with webmasters and moderators.
  2. If you need a computer but don’t have one, you can create your own if you know how to or buy from a friend or relative who is ready to dispose their computer. Wait for a couple of months for the computer prices to go down before buying.
  3. Start a small pay-per-click campaign using a small budget to test your offer and bring in initial traffic.
  4. Submit articles like this one to various e-zines for free traffic.
  5. Consider using templates for your website instead of having it custom-made by a professional.
  6. If you have a retail business, make the initial orders on-demand, meaning you don’t buy any inventory until someone makes the purchase. You will have to make sure the timing is perfect to avoid delays in your delivery.
  7. Starting a service business means you don’t have to invest in any initial inventory.
  8. Start with an online business as this has less cost and can reach more people.

The idea is to keep thinking creatively about how you will invest your dollars so you can avoid spending too much in any one area before your business has proven itself. As you grow, adjust your budget and you will be on your way to success.  Start now and reap the fruits tomorrow.

The Downside To Working from Home

working from home

I am blessed to work from home these days. More and more people are working from home whether they work for themselves or a company. However, many women jump on the Wahm bandwagon without considering all of the drawbacks to working at home. While some people are naturally inclined to have stay at home jobs, others find the transition more difficult to make. There are many benefits to working at home, but the drawbacks need to be considered before you make the choice.

The first drawback to looking for work from home careers is that your current career may not easily transfer to a work at home situation. If you work in the medical field or are a police officer, being a Wahm might not be an effortless transition unless you are eager to change careers entirely. Sales and administrative positions transfer well, as do creative jobs like design and journalism. For those in jobs that can’t make the work at home switch, you’ll have to think carefully about what you want to do when start working at home and start investigating that field.

Cost is another important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you. Although many mothers start working at home to save on childcare, there are added costs to being a Wahm. If you need health insurance, it will have to come out of your pocket instead of being paid by your employers. There are also lots of taxes that you will have to pay. Your record keeping must be excellent in order to keep track of your income and expenses, and to fill out your income tax return at the end of the year.

Working at home with children is not always as easy as it seems. If you have young children that aren’t in school yet, it may be difficult to work when they are awake. This can signify lots of busy naptimes and late nights to make your projects done when they are sleeping. Family members can help take care of your children from time to time, but the responsibility of both your children and your job will be firmly in your hands. With older children, it is sometimes easier to work from home. But you will still have to start and sustain a fairly well-adjusted schedule in order to get everything done.

Wahms have to be very self-motivated and disciplined in order to get their work done on time and correctly. If you are the type of person that is motivated by outside factors (such as a supervisor), then working at home may not be your cup of tea. When you have a work at home employment, there is no one there to look over your shoulder and make sure that you are still working. Distractions like the television, Internet and housework can be hindrances to your work at home success.

Isolation is another problem for Wahms. Working at home alone can get frustrating and lonely. Make sure you are comfortable with spending time alone, and that you take steps to combat isolation. If you are especially prone to being depressed, then the isolation that comes with working at home may make you feel withdrawn and sad. Taking steps to combat loneliness is an important part of any Wahm’s success.

After considering these factors, you may decide that working at home is not right for you. However, thousands of people deal with these drawbacks and still have successful work at home careers. These reasons should not stop you from becoming a Wahm if that is really what you want to do. Be realistic and  you have to be even more disciplined if you work from home and not let what is going on around you be a distraction.

Some of the Best Work From Home Ideas

Computers are often used to complete homework ...

As exciting as it may sound and as rewarding as it can be you still should keep your day job until you are established and have replaced your existing income. Although we may not feel that your job has any security keep it until you have replaced it completely along with any benefits you have like medical coverage.

Taking time to consider working from home ideas will take some of the anxiety out of the decision.

There are many ways to keep your inspiration and motivation while attempting to escape the 9 to 5 doldrums.  Ideas abound about what type of business to get into, how much planning should go into it, whether you should take out a loan, refinance your home or use your savings to invest in a home-based enterprise.

Both obvious and less-noticeable sources make ideas available once the decision to work from home is made.

For instance, thinking about what your goals are is a valuable step.  Do you want to make as much money as possible? Is 55 a good age to retire at?  Work less than 20 hours a week?Could you sell the business to a competitor after a few viable years? Your working from home ideas ought to reflect the answers to these questions.

An attainable vision of you and the home based business should be created.  Picture yourself in five years’ time.  Which work from home ideas are most likely to make that dream come true?  Are there work from home opportunities that allow you to express your passions and make money at the same time? The relative security, low risk and few surprises of full time work is preferable than home work without passion.

In order to be successful at a home business, passion and skill are required. Many work from home ideas got their start when someone sat down and listed which skills matched both their passion and a market niche. Is there a business that utilizes talents that your friends and family are aware of?What set of skills would someone come directly to you for?Can you place a value on those?

Write down all your thoughts and beliefs when developing you specific work from home ideas. These will guide you to ensure you have chosen correctly.Vision and passion will help facilitate the attaining of said goals.

Use this information to devise a business plan, and be prepared to revisit the plan often. The initial vision, although sometimes on a bumpy path and full of detours, often remains and is achieved.Your values and beliefs will carry you during these times.

Telecommuting has given many employees a new l...
Image via Wikipedia

The easy and quick response to that question is YES!

Individuals have been creating strong streams of income via work at home employment ventures for many years, and due to the continued expansion of the world wide web and the quantity of internet users on the up, this trend appears set to carry on.

The considerably more complicated and longer response to this question is that not everyone succeeds at work at home employment due to a lot of things. In most cases, the simple explanation why some succeed where others fall short is because of their choice of business plans. It is crucial to get your business plan flawless in every respect, be it in the choice of tools that you utilise, but more significantly, that through learning from mistakes and experimentation, you perfect every element of your plan which you plan to use to make your work from home employment a success.

As soon as you have put the finishing touches to your business model, you will then be in a position to rapidly reproduce your successes and operate your business model in more than one market. Owing to the nature of the internet, new keyword searches are being created every moment of the day, with different internet users typing in various searches into the engines every day around the globe. This potentially means that you can enter into any unlimited quantity of niche segments with your perfected business process to replicate your achievements over and over again.

Despite the service, business display space or market segment of any business, be it high street store or website business, every business is indistinguishable in essence. All businesses need consumers to thrive, so the first action will be to research these potential consumer segments. All businesses need a display space to reach their customers be it in the form of a supermarket, off licence, restaurant, website or even a blog. These are all just platforms which are used to communicate product offerings or services to the potential consumer.

Every business will also need a product or service which will be used to generate sales resulting in profit, so choosing the right product that will satisfy the requirements and wants of the potential consumer is imperative. Finally, the other element all businesses have in common is that they all take on some form of marketing or promotional advertising to enable these potential consumers to find their product offerings.

What Are The Benefits Of Working From Home?

Working from Home

The unemployment rates in Western countries are going through the roof with companies laying off staff as they struggle to cope with the current financial turmoil. It can be a very difficult period in one’s life when the lose their job but people need to try and think in a positive manner. This is far from easy however however becoming down and depressed will not help the situation.

I was made redundant from a financial services corporation when I was aged twenty-two. Due to the fact that I was quite young, the fact that I did not have any children and due to the fact that I did not have a mortgage or any other debts; I was not actually that depressed about the situation. I have to admit that I was not particularly enjoying the role that I was in. I had always wanted to be my own boss and this would be the perfect time to turn my dream into a reality. Being made redundant turned out to be a blessing in disguise; I would probably have left the company within a few months in any case but this way they were actually paying me a redundancy package to leave!

I used this money to set up my own small business. I was going to run one-to-one stuttering therapy courses to help people to achieve fluency. I am a person who has managed to successfully overcome a stutter and I therefore felt that I had something to offer.

Working from home has many benefits as I have found to my own benefit. These include being your own boss and therefore not having to answer to other people. Choosing your own hours, choosing the amount of hours you work and the amount of holidays that you have. The rigid structure of set hours or working shifts no longer have to be an issue. The time spent travelling to work, normally in a rush hour period, is basically time that could be better spent. I am a person who prefers to work late at night and at times early in the morning when the world is seemingly at its quitest.

Working from home now allows me to go to all of the important events in my children’s lives. For example attending their school sports days, the christmas play, parents evenings, the visits to the dentists. A full time employee normally has to miss a number of these events which is most frustrating and also unacceptable.

I now have partnerships in other business ventures including one offering a DVD replication service and one offering web promotion advice.

Setting up my own home based business has been the best thing that I have ever done and I would recommend other people to do the same.
